Europeans Collect Carriage Driving Titles
The 2006 Carriage Driving World Championships for riders with a disability were held from 6 to 10 September in Hellendoom, the Netherlands. The competition included Dressage, Marathon and Cone Driving events.
Diane Kastama (USA) was the only non-European winner of the Championships,
taking the gold in the Individual Grade One competition. She was followed by
Jacques Poppen (NED) and Heiner Lehrter (GER). Bernhard Bücker (GER) was the
winner of the Individual Grade Two competition, followed by Judi Ralls (GBR) and
Manfred Nikolaus
(GER).
Dutch rider Jan Ranzijn won the title in the Pairs Grade One
competition, followed by Josef Bödenfeld (GER) and Brenda Hodgson (GBR). The
team’s competition was won by Germany, Silver by Great Britain and bronze by the
Netherlands.
This was the fourth Carriage Driving World Championships for drivers with a
disability but the first held since the transfer of governance to the
International Equestrian Federation (FEI). A full list of results, plus photos
