Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, will host the Paralympic Games between 07 - 18 September 2016. Swimming will be the second biggest sport in the Rio 2016 programme: The Olympic Aquatics Centre in the district Barra will be the venue for 152 medal events with 620 participating athletes.

Test Event
The Rio 2016 test event for Paralympic Swimming will take place 22-24 April 2016. International Classification will take place 20-21 April 2016. More information to be found in our Competition Calendar
Qualification
Qualification Criteria All information concerning the qualification for the swimming competition at Rio 2016 is published in the general Qualification Criteria. Information on the Swimming Qualification, Timelines and Minimum Qualification Standards can be found on pages 90-97. Information on Bipartite Commission Invitations can be found on pages 8-9. 2015 World Championships Slot Allocation Method: The top two (2) ranked athletes at the 2015 IPC Swimming World Championships in each of the Individual medal events on the Rio 2016 Paralympic Programme each obtained one (1) qualification slot for their respective NPC through the 2015 World Championships Slot Allocation Method. MQS Slot Allocation Method: The period to achieve MQS performances for the MQS Allocation Method ended 31. January. Only athletes with an MQS who have not obtained a slot at the 2015 IPC Swimming World Championships were considered in the calculation of qualification slots through this method. For the final distribution of swimming slots, click here. A Calculation example that shall support NPCs in comprehending the MQS Allocation Method can be found here.
MQS Rankings: The Minimum Qualification Standard Rankings for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games are now available and published here. Please choose "Minimum Qualification Standard" as "Ranking Type" and "Rio 2016 Paralympic Games" as "Ranking List".
