The educational programme "Paralympic School Day" had another showing in Spain recently in the town of La Seu d’Urgell, which is located in Catalonia. 26 Apr 2010 By IPC

Taking place from 22-23 April, a total of 170 school children from the schools CEIP Albert Vives, CEIP Pau Claris, La Salle and Castellciutat attended the Paralympic School Day in the municipal sports facilities of La Seu d’Urgell. Participants were able to try their skills at several Paralympic sports, including Biathlon and Cross-Country Skiing, Boccia, Goalball, Football 5-a-Side, Football 7-a-Side and Wheelchair Basketball. There was also an opportunity to try out an obstacle course.

During the two school days, the children also learned about the Paralympic values of Courage, Determination, Inspiration and Equality. The experience provided a chance for those involved to see people with a disability and Paralympic Sport as an activity for everyone, and thus establish awareness about the Paralympic Movement.

The Paralympic School Day in La Seu d’Urgell was organized by the Association Play and Train and the City of La Seu d’Urgell. Co-operation was also from the National Paralympic Committee of Spain, the Catalan Federation for the Physically Disabled, MIFAS Association, La Molina and Water Veri.

The Paralympic School Day (PSD) is an educational programme initiated by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), with the aim of creating awareness and understanding in schools about people with a disability. The PSD is a set of activities that educate youth about Paralympic Sport, individual differences and disability issues in a fun and playful environment. These activities can be organized during a normal school day and target an audience of young students, ages 6-15.
