Awards and honours
In January 2017 she received a Medal of the Order of Australia [OAM] in recognition of winning a gold medal at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. (paralympic.org, 28 Jan 2017)
Impairment
She was born nearly four months prematurely which resulted in her being diagnosed with cerebral palsy at age two. At age 21 she acquired Guillain-Barre syndrome, an autoimmune condition that causes muscle weakness by damaging the peripheral nervous system. (paralympic.org.au, 2016)

OTHER ACTIVITIES
She has volunteered for the Children's Hospital Foundation, which involves supporting patients and their families in the operating theatre at Lady Cilento Children's Hospital in Brisbane, QLD, Australia.
