Impairment
In 2008 he was attacked and suffered a knife wound in his back, resulting in a spinal cord injury and loss of the use of his legs. After several years of rehabilitation he regained some sensation in his legs. (vesti.kz, 26 Feb 2014; megapolis.kz, 24 Feb 2014)

REPRIMANDED
He returned an adverse analytical finding for the prohibited substance acetazolamide in an out-of-competition test on 05 December 2013, at a World Cup event in Canmore, AB, Canada. The finding was the result of a prescribed medication that he took under the supervision of a physician. In February 2014 he was reprimanded by the International Paralympic Committee [IPC] for failing to gain a Therapeutic Use Exemption [TUE] to use the medication. (paralympic.org, 27 Feb 2014)
