The Swiss Open Nationals is arguably one of the best meetings in the world for wheelchair athletes and, as a result, attracts athletes from all over the world.

In 2014, the 41st Swiss Open Nationals became an IPC Athletics Grand Prix for the first time and therefore also offered track and field events for ambulant athletes (all classes 11-13, 20, 31-38, 40-47 and 50-57).

The event is also part of the Swiss Racing Series, a renowned event series for wheelchair athletes. In 2016 Daniela Jutzeler Memorial (Heats of the GP) will take place from 26th to 27th May and the Swiss Nationals (Finals of GP) from 28th to 29th May. Therefore the Daniela Jutzeler Memorials as well as the Swiss Nationals are integrated in the Grand Prix.

Athletes and staff will be hosted at the Swiss Paraplegics Centre adjacent to the competition venue in Nottwil or at Campus Sursee, only 10 minutes by shuttle bus from the Paraplegics Centre. Both venues are fully wheelchair accessible. The venue is located on the shores of the stunning Lake of Sempach and a short journey from the famous city of Lucerne.
