China retain Wheelchair Curling gold

As the loudest and youngest rink in the tournament, defending champions China won their second Paralympic Wheelchair Curling gold on Saturday (12 March), with Sweden conceding before the start of the last end.

In a rematch of the 2021 World Championship final, the Beijing 2022 hosts beat the Swedish 8-3 at the same venue where the teams faced each other only a few months ago.  Read more

Ebba Aarsjoe ends Beijing campaign with second gold

Ebba Aarsjoe added a second gold medal to her haul on the final day of female Para Alpine Skiing competition at the Yangqing National Alpine Skiing Centre in Beijing.

Sweden's 21-year-old won the women's slalom standing with a time of 1:31.76, followed by Chinese 20-year-old Zhang Mengqiu (1:37.40), who leaves Beijing with two golds and three silvers, and Germany's 22-year-old Anna-Marie Rieder (1:40.50)

Aarsjoe therefore ends her successful Beijing 2022 Paralympic Winter Games campaign with two golds and one bronze.

The penultimate day of the Beijing 2022 Paralympic Winter Games will see the champions crowned in Wheelchair Curling whilst the bronze medal will be decided in Para Ice Hockey on Saturday (12 March).

On the snow, the men will return for the slalom in Para Alpine Skiing and the Para Cross-Country is set to wow with the middle distance. Read more

Singing coach sees China through to Wheelchair Curling final, Canada take bronze

China are one victory away from winning gold at the Beijing 2022 Paralympic Winter Games - and the secret to getting the team there might just be their coach’s singing. 

At the National Aquatics Centre on Friday, the defending champions cruised to a 9-5 win over Canada, the only other team to have won gold at the Paralympic Games.

In the gold-medal game on Saturday, the hosts will meet Sweden, who scored a point in each of the final three ends to beat Slovakia 6-4 in the other semi-final.  Read more

Golden family: Aigner siblings achieve Paralympic glory

The Aigner family kept making Para Alpine Skiing history at the Beijing 2022 Paralympic Winter Games.

Veronika Aigner, guided by her sister Elisabeth, took gold in the women's giant slalom vision impaired, while her other sister Barbara, guided by Klara Sykora, secured bronze in the same event on the fifth day of competition at the Yangqing National Alpine Skiing Centre.

Their brother Johannes Aigner has also been succeeding on Chinese soil as he already secured two golds, one silver and one bronze in the men's vision impaired competition.

Oksana Masters takes second gold of the Games

Oksana Masters clinched her second gold in Biathlon by winning the Women’s Individual Sitting authoritatively with a time of 42:17.9.

Masters’ compatriot Kendall Gretsch, who had claimed top honours in same event at the World Championship in  Lillehammer, had to be content with second spot with a time of 44:09.7 while China’s Yilin Shan was third, another 18.7 seconds behind.

 

First team medal to be awarded at Beijing 2022

Athletes from five out of six sports will be in action on Friday at Beijing 2022 as Para Biathlon, Para Snowboard and Para Ice Hockey returns to the schedules.

The first team medal of this edition will be won in Wheelchair Curling, as the bronze medal match follows on from the semi-finals to double the pleasure on day seven.

Para Alpine Skiing features the women's giant slalom whilst banked slalom will play out in Para Snowboard.

Hosts China are going for semi-final success in Para Ice Hockey, and will take on the USA hoping for a huge upset. Read more

Defending champions China, three-time gold medallists Canada, Slovakia and Sweden will all play for a shot on gold in the Wheelchair Curling competition at Beijing 2022. 

While the hosts and Canada were expected to advance, Slovakia reached the knock-out stages for the first time while Sweden are targeting their best finish since 2010.

In Para Alpine Skiing, Finland grabbed their maiden Paralympic gold.

Semi-finals set in wheelchair curling

After an unforgiving six days of round-robin play, we finally know the four teams who will advance to the knock-out stages in Wheelchair Curling.

The semi-finals will feature an exciting match-up between China and Canada - a repeat of 2018 when the Chinese executed a shock victory on their way to gold - whilst Sweden will face Slovakia. Read more
