Being part of this Championships will be a unique and rewarding experience. So, applications are open for Portuguese and foreigner volunteers to the event

With exactly five months to go until the 2016 IPC Swimming European Open Championships in Funchal, Portugal, organisers have launched the search for volunteers.

Those interested can register at Portuguese Swimming Federation’s website until 15 March.

As well as the European titles on offer, the competition will be the last major competition ahead of the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, and one of the biggest swimming events ever in Portugal.

Around 450 swimmers from 50 countries will compete between 30 April – 7 May at the Complexo Olimpico de Piscinas da Penteada, located on the island of Madeira.

Organisers are looking for volunteers from Portugal and around the world to take-up the opportunity to help with the organisation of a major sporting event and the opportunity to watch the world’s greatest swimmers perform.

“Being part of this Championships will be a unique and rewarding experience. So, applications are open for Portuguese and foreigner volunteers to the event” said Mariett Mattias from the Local Organising Committee.

“Each volunteer can make all the difference in the final success of the event and have an important role in the daily activities. Together with the working teams, they may gain experience in several organisational areas, solving challenging tasks and off course having fun all the way”.

The volunteer programme is operated by the Portuguese Swimming Federation and supported by the IPC Swimming.

Each volunteer will be given lunch and afternoon tea, transport to and from the venue from Funchal City Centre, insurance for on-site activities and an official uniform.

All successful volunteers will be responsible for their own accommodation and travel to and from Madeira.
