Brittni Mason and Noah Malone shine at the Prefontaine Classic

Brittni Mason and Noah Malone sprinted to the women’s and men’s 100m Para mixed‑class victories at the Prefontaine Classic, the ninth leg of the 2026 Wanda Diamond League, on Saturday (4 July) in Eugene, USA.

Mason, the T47 world record holder (11.89), claimed the women’s race in 12.05, her fastest performance since 2021. The five‑time Paralympic medallist – who won universal relay gold at Tokyo 2020 and individual world titles in the 100m (Dubai 2019) and 200m (Paris 2023) – took control from the early metres and powered to a major win on U.S. soil.

The race featured an all‑USA field on the day the country celebrated the 250th anniversary of its independence. Six‑time World Championships medallist Kym Crosby (T13) finished second in 12.42, followed by Kerragan Johnson (T47), who clocked a personal best of 12.98.

In the men’s event, Paris 2024 Paralympic champion Noah Malone (T12) produced a season‑best 10.54 to take the win. The five‑time Paralympic medallist held off Jaidyn Blackwell (T38), the Paris 2024 winner and New Delhi 2025 world champion, who also set a season best with 10.67.

Among the stars in the field, Paralympic champion Hunter Woodhall (T62) placed sixth in 11.02. His wife, Olympic long jump champion Tara Davis‑Woodhall, added to the family’s success by defending her Prefontaine Classic title in the non‑Para women’s long jump with a winning leap of 7.13m.

Para athletics tradition

The Prefontaine Classic first incorporated Para events in 1989 and is the fourth Diamond League meeting this season to feature Para athletics.

Earlier in June, Rome’s Golden Gala Pietro Mennea staged 100m multi‑class races won by Germany’s Felix Streng (men) and Spain’s Fiona Pilar (women).  

At Oslo’s Bislett Games on 10 June, Ireland’s Orla Comerford took the women’s 100m Para race ahead of Dutch star Fleur Jong and Norway’s Ida‑Louise Overland.  

At the end of the month, the Meeting de Paris hosted 400m Para races, with Alice Metais and Ayoub Sadni winning the women’s and men’s events at Charlety Stadium, venue of the 2023 World Para Athletics Championships.

The next Diamond League stop featuring Para athletics will be the London Diamond League on 18 July, held at the London Stadium –  host of the 2012 Paralympic Games and the 2017 World Para Athletics Championships.
