Tychshenko rewrites record books as Olomouc delivers memorable all-women GP

Kazakhstan's Irina Tychshenko stole the spotlight with two world records* as four global marks fell during the second edition of the Olomouc 2026 World Para Athletics Women's Grand Prix held from 2–4 July.

A total of 184 athletes from 42 nations across four continents competed at the TJ Lokomotiva Olomouc Stadium, producing world-class performances throughout the unique all-women event.

Record-breaking opening day 

Three world records highlighted the opening day in Olomouc.

Kazakhstan's Tychshenko returned to the Czech city in style, improving her own world records in both the women's discus throw F45 and women's shot put F45.

The 52-year-old opened her campaign with a throw of 25.60m in the discus, surpassing the previous world record she had set in Olomouc last year. After fouling her next two attempts, she responded with throws of 25.40m before extending the mark to 25.72m on her fifth attempt.

Tychshenko added a second gold medal in the women's javelin F45 on day two with a throw of 19.86m.

She then capped off a remarkable weekend by improving her own world record in the women's shot put F45, producing 8.83m with her sixth and final attempt to secure another gold medal.

New Delhi 2025 World Para Athletics Championships silver medallist Madina Mukhtorova of Uzbekistan also enjoyed a memorable competition, setting a new world record in the women's discus throw F40 with 25.71m on her second attempt. The mark eclipsed the previous world record of 25.19m set by Poland's Tokyo 2020 gold medallist Renata Sliwinska in Warsaw two years ago.

Eight-time Paralympic champion Raoua Tlili claimed bronze in the combined women's discus F40/F41 event with 33.93m before returning to win gold in the women's shot put F41 with a throw of 10.08m, while Mukhtorova finished second in the F40 class.

Croatia's Karla Hergotic completed the trio of world record holders after launching the shot 8.73m on her fifth attempt in the women's shot put F62.

Paralympic champions impress

Several Paralympic champions also delivered standout performances throughout the competition.

In addition to Mukhtorova's world record, Uzbekistan – the hosts of the next World Para Athletics Championships – enjoyed more success in Olomouc.

Returning to international competition after a two-year break following the birth of her daughter Rihana, Paris 2024 champion Asila Mirzayorova showed her class once again.

The world champion from Paris 2023 and Kobe 2024 claimed silver in the women's 100m T11 before defending her favourite event, winning the women's long jump T11 with 4.68m. Her personal best remains 5.24m.

Paris 2024 double medallist Nurkhon Kurbanova lived up to expectations by winning the women's javelin F54 with a throw of 15.75m before adding the women's shot put F54 title on the final day with 6.23m.

Among the other Paralympic medallists, Shahinakhon Yigitalieva won gold in the women's javelin F46 with 41.83m and added silver in the women's shot put F46, where compatriot and New Delhi 2025 world champion Karomat Omonova claimed gold with 12.64m.

African stars dominate

Africa's Paralympic stars also enjoyed a successful weekend.

Algeria's Nassima Saifi, the three-time Paralympic champion in the women's discus throw F57, maintained her dominance by winning gold with 35.54m ahead of Uzbekistan's Tokyo 2020 champion Khamdamova Mokhigul. Saifi completed a double by taking gold in the women's shot put F57 with 10.43m, once again finishing ahead of Mokhigul.

South Africa's Simone Kruger, the Paris 2024 champion in the women's discus throw F38, also impressed, securing gold with 36.73m after winning the women's shot put F38 with 11.88m in Olomouc.

Tunisia's four-time Paralympic champion Maroua Ibrahmi claimed gold in the women's club throw F32, an event in which she won Paralympic gold in Paris, with a best effort of 24.56m. She had earlier taken silver in the women's shot put F32.

The home fans also had plenty to celebrate as four-time Paralympic medallist Eva Berna won the women's shot put F37 with 10.56m.

Among the other notable performances, three-time Paralympic silver medallist and two-time European champion Lucyna Kornobys claimed gold in the women's discus throw F34 with 20.16m after taking silver in the women's shot put F34.

The World Para Athletics Grand Prix series now heads to Tlaxcala, Mexico, for the seventh meeting of the 2026 season from 21–24 July.
