Bogota 2018: Jhon Castaneda named Best Powerlifter

Jhon Castaneda has been chosen as “Best Americas Powerlifter” after winning the men’s over 107kg with an Americas record lift of 212kg on home soil at the Americas Open Championships in Bogota, Colombia.

Brazilian Mariana D’Andrea, who set a new Americas record and junior world record of 116kg in the women’s up to 67kg, ended second in the poll.

The vote was carried out on World Para Powerlifting’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, with Castaneda collecting the most combined votes across all social media pages.

Mexican three-time Paralympic champion Amalia Perez and Chile’s Parapan American champion Juan Carlos Garrido were also nominated.
