Chilean Parapan American champion starts as favourite 30 Nov 2018 By World Para Powerlifting

Juan Carlos Garrido will be the leading contender in the men’s up to 59kg at the Bogota 2018 World Para Powerlifting Americas Open Championships.

Chile’s Parapan American champion has so far enjoyed a good year, taking silver at the Europeans and bronze at the Asia-Oceanian. He is now hoping to secure gold to achieve qualification for his third Paralympic Games in Tokyo, Japan, in 2020.

One Americas powerlifter who may challenge Garrido’s place on the throne is Peruvian Neil Garcia Trelles. The 45-year-old, who participated in the Beijing 2008 Paralympics, most recently competed at the 2018 European Open Championships in France, finishing eighth.
