British Paralympians Recognized in New Year's Honours List

A total of 18 Paralympians as well as coaches and officials were named in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours List in recognition of their contribution to British sport. 05 Jan 2009 By IPC

BPA Chairperson Tim Reddish said, “We are delighted to see these Paralympic athletes recognized in the honour’s list for their contribution to British sport and their magnificent achievements.”

Those involved in Paralympic Sport in receipt of honours are:

The British Team finished second on the medals tally at the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games, having won 102 medals – including 42 golds. Eleanor Simmonds, at 14, is thought to be the youngest person in receipt of an MBE.

The Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) were responsible for selecting those who are recognized for their contribution to sport in the New Year’s Honour’s.
