PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic medallist Chris Vos showed he is ready to rock the new winter season, winning two gold medals on the final day of the Dubai 2018 World Para Snowboard World Cup.

The Dutch snowboarder’s performance in the men’s banked slalom SB-LL1 was matched by Australian Ben Tudhope, who also claimed two wins in the men’s SB-LL2.

“It was really good to be here, to be racing again. I was a bit nervous during the first race, but the course was so good and I had a lot of fun. And It’s great to start the season with a good result and riding well,” said Vos.

His strong performance saw Netherlands finish top of the table with eight medals, ahead of Australia (six) and China (five).

“Now, it’s time to move forward and think about the next competitions,” he added.

“Last season my rivals were faster than me, but maybe this year I’ll get a little bit closer. Let’s see what happens.”

Fastest time

As for Tudhope, he left Dubai not only with two golds in the SB-LL2, but also the fastest time on the indoor course (31.75).

“It was awesome. I got my first World Cup gold ever on the first day and today another gold, even with the fall on the second run,” said Tudhope.

“I wanted to get a time below 31 seconds, so I pushed myself to see how far I could go. I am a little bit sore now, but it’s a great result for me. I can’t ask for anything else. It’s a great preparation and big motivation for the season.”

In the women’s banked slalom SB-LL2, Anna Garttener made it a double celebration for Netherlands as she also took gold on the second day of the World Cup, while China’s Qiaorong Pang won the women's banked slalom SB-UL.

In the men’s banked slalom SB-UL, Austrian Patrick Mayrhofer claimed the first place.

The Dubai World Cup is the first major international snowboard competition to be held in the country and featured 35 athletes from 12 countries.

The next competition will be in Landgraaf, Netherlands, from 14-15 November.
