Initial details of LA28 Paralympic triathlon course unveiled
23 Sep 2026
LA28 has unveiled the first look at the 2028 Para triathlon course in the Venice Beach Zone of the city for the Paralympic Games. The loop-style course features scenic routes throughout the historic beachfront neighborhood in Los Angeles, with a singular Transition area and a photo-finish backdrop against the famed Pacific coastline.
The LA28 Para triathlon course is designed to deliver fast, exciting racing, with generally flat bike and run routes that should allow Para athletes to build speed throughout the competition. All events will utilise a single transition area, creating a central hub where Para athletes will return after each bike and run lap and where thousands of fans will be able to cheer them on at critical junctures throughout the races. The finish line for all events will also be located at this same site, adjacent to the Transition Area, bringing each race to a shared and energetic conclusion along the scenic Venice Beach Zone.
Paralympic Triathlon Individual Event – women's and men’s, 18-19 August 2028
Swim: Para athletes competing across the six sport classes (PTWC, PTS2, PTS3, PTS4, PTS5 and PTVI) in both the men's and women's events will start from a barge positioned beyond the breakwater, swimming one 750m lap before exiting the water and proceeding to the transition area.
Bike: Para athletes will proceed along the Venice Beach path before meeting the Venice streets where they will cycle three laps of 6.6km, for a total distance of 20km, with two technical turnaround points. Before returning to the Transition area, cyclists will ride in front of the iconic Venice sign.
Run: In the final stage of the race, athletes will complete two laps of 2.5km, covering a total distance of 5km before reaching the finish line overlooking the coastline.
