“The Games Experience Programme is a unique opportunity for people to gain a detailed understanding of the opportunities and challenges related to staging this global event."

The IPC Academy is delighted to announce that the full details of the Games Experience Programme (GEP) are now available. Key speakers are also being confirmed for this exciting programme with several important individuals already announced.

The Games Experience Programme is being held between 3 to 5 September 2012 and will give governments, bidding and candidate cities, and those involved in the Paralympic Games supply chain a much greater understanding of the complexities involved in delivering the second biggest sporting event in the world.

The programme is primarily targeted at national and regional government agencies with a remit to enhance trade and investment through major sports events. Companies with a sport business portfolio will also greatly benefit from the programme as they will gain valuable insight to further develop their planning processes related to service delivery for such major sports events. Delegates will be engaged throughout the programme in various activities including:

• Site visits to key operational areas with privileged access

• Opportunities to meet in person IPC, OGOC and London experts

• Presentations from OCOG Managers, IPC Advisors, industry experts and key OCOG partners including government representatives and providers

• Informative workshops

• Networking opportunities with future OCOG staff and government representatives throughout the programme

• Invitation to the IPC Academy Cocktail Function which combines attendees from the GEP, the IPC Academy Inclusion Summit and the Observer’s Programme at Lancaster House, host of the British Business Embassy throughout the Games period.

• Unique, unprecedented insights and privileged access

The programme will give attendees a multi stakeholder perspective of Games management and of the London 2012 Paralympics to help them understand strategic drivers for hosting such an event. Delegates will also observe specific core operating functions of Games delivery.

Combining a mixture of presentations from highly-experienced and renowned experts in the delivery of large-scale sporting events together with tours of key sites and networking opportunities, the programme represents an exciting initiative for governments and companies to further engage with the Paralympic Movement at the highest level.

Two presenters already confirmed are Jean Tomlin (HR Director at London 2012) and Commissioner of Transport for London, Peter Hendy.

Xavier Gonzalez, the IPC’s Chief Executive Officer, stated: “The Games Experience Programme is a unique opportunity for people to gain a detailed understanding of the opportunities and challenges related to staging this global event. We have seen growing interest in the Paralympic Games in recent years and it is our aim to provide more opportunities for people to engage with the Paralympic Movement at all levels. This programme is an example of our commitment to deliver such opportunities.”
