IPC recognised with GLORIA Award

The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) was recognised with a prestigious GLORIA Award for inclusion and diversity in sports at the 2026 Sport Summit Madrid on Wednesday (17 June).
Launched in 2025, the GLORIA Awards were created with the purpose of highlighting the talent, effort and impact of sport as a tool for social, economic and cultural transformation in Ibero-America. The awards recognise athletes, entities, institutions, organizations, initiatives, and cities that have stood out for their achievements and commitment to the values of sport, education, innovation, and sustainability.
In 2026, the Executive Committee of the Awards unanimously decided to recognise the IPC for its continuous efforts towards the integration of all athletes and to foster and improve the Paralympic Movement globally.
Collecting the award in Madrid on behalf of the IPC was Governing Board member Fernando Riaño.
“It is a great honour for the IPC to be awarded this prestigious accolade, and I would sincerely like to thank the Sport Summit Madrid Executive Committee for this wonderful recognition,” said Riaño.
“What makes the IPC unique is that while sport is our core business, we are also part of a much bigger social movement – disability rights – which gives us an incredibly strong sense of purpose. Through our activities, we aim to transform society and make for a more inclusive world for the planet’s 1.3 billion persons with disabilities.
“Since the IPC was founded in 1989, the reach, depth and impact of the Paralympic Movement has grown each day, while the Paralympic Games is now regarded as the world’s third biggest sport event. Our commitment to changing the world through sport has never been stronger.”
Sport Summit Madrid is a leading international event, organised in collaboration with the Regional Government and the City Council of Madrid, as well as UN Tourism and other institutions and entities. It is supported by institutional and corporate partners and gathers 5,000 professionals of the sport industry.
