World Para Powerlifting continued the development of the sport in Japan in the lead-up to Tokyo 2020 by certifying new technical officials in a course held in Kitakyushu ahead of the Asia-Oceania Open Championships.

Canadian, Japanese and South Korean technical officials were in attendance.

Led by educator and level 1 technical official Azzam Al-Zubi, the course content included technical rules and regulations and their application.

The candidates had the chance to visit the Kitakyushu 2018’s competition venue and technical areas, as well as observe training sessions.

They were provided the opportunity to apply their learnt knowledges and skills by acting as technical officials or volunteers at the Championships.

“This course was not only an excellent opportunity for the candidates to build on their knowledge of Para powerlifting but also to experience and see some of the top athletes in the world compete,” said Al-Zubi.

The Kitakyushu 2018 Asia-Oceania Open Championships featured 200 athletes from 29 countries competing.
