Paralympic medallist Lauro Chaman will lead the Brazilian team at the Para Cycling Road World Championships http://www.maniago2018.it/ set to take place in Maniago, Italy, between 2 and 5 August.

The 31-year-old seeks to extend his winning streak after taking gold in the men’s C4-5 15km scratch race at the Track Worlds in May. “This was my most important victory as I won in front of my family,” he said after the win in front of his home crowd in Rio.

“I must say I dreamed of the day I would win a medal in front of my little son and finally it came true. I already felt fulfilled with the two medals in Rio, but this tops it.”

Chaman has proven to be competitive both on the track and the road. In Maniago, he aims to defend the road race C5 world title he won in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, last year, and outdo his bronze medal-performance in the time trial.

The Brazilian became a national hero at Rio 2016, where he became the country’s first Paralympic cycling medallist.

Chaman will be joined on Italian soil by three Rio 2016 Paralympians: Marcia Fanhani (women´s B; together with pilot Camila Coelho), Soelito Gohr (men´s C5) and Jady Malavazzi (women´s H3).

Victor Luise Herling (men´s C2), Ulisses Leal Freitas (men´s H4), Eduardo Ramos Pimenta (men´s H3), Marcos Roberto Ribeiro (men´s C1) and André Luis Grizante (men´s C4) complete the team.
