Medical education conference to precede Wheelchair Basketball World Championships
Clinicians attending the IWBF Wheelchair Basketball World Championships, as well as those interested in developing their expertise in Para sport medicine, are encouraged to participate in the one-day conference in Ottowa, Canada. 30 Jul 2026
To promote knowledge sharing and collaboration in Para sport, sport and exercise medicine physicians and other clinicians have the opportunity to deepen their understanding of Para athlete health at the Canadian Academy of Sport and Exercise Medicine (CASEM) Para and Adaptive Sport Medicine Conference, on 8 September 2026 in Ottawa, Canada.
Taking place ahead of the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF) Wheelchair Basketball World Championships, the one-day conference will provide evidence-informed education focused on the prevention, assessment and management of injuries and medical conditions affecting athletes with physical impairments. The programme will feature expert presentations, workshops and panel discussions on key topics in Para sport medicine such as spinal cord injuries, emergency medical care, wheelchair-related injuries, injury prevention, rehabilitation, classification considerations and return-to-play decisions. By strengthening the expertise of sports medicine professionals across the Paralympic Movement, the conference contributes to improved athlete health, injury and illness prevention, and high-quality, evidence-informed medical care for Para athletes worldwide.
As the IWBF Wheelchair Basketball World Championships welcome teams from around the world, the conference provides an opportunity for clinicians to exchange knowledge, share practical approaches and support the continued development of medical expertise and athlete-centred care in Para sport medicine in the context of an international competition and across the Paralympic Movement.
Clinicians attending the IWBF Wheelchair Basketball World Championships, as well as those interested in developing their expertise in Para sport medicine, are encouraged to participate.
