Mexico City 2017: Lucy Ejike vs. Yang Yan16.09.2017
Nigeria’s Paralympic champion seeks to win her first World title against China’s 2010 world champion
After winning gold at Rio 2016, Lucy Ejike is hoping to extend her winning streak and claim the title at her first World Championships in Mexico City, from 30 September-6 October.
The Nigerian, who set a world record of 142kg at last year’s Paralympic Games, is the strong candidate for gold, especially after Egypt’s Rio 2016 silver medallist Fatma Omar withdrew from Mexico City 2017.
But Ejike will not have it easy as Paralympic bronze medallist Yang Yan will fly to Mexico to compete in the women’s up to 61kg. The Chinese has two World Championships under her belt, including one gold medal at Kuala Lumpur 2010.
Following her silver medal-performance at Dubai 2014, Yan is hoping to return to the top of the world in Mexico City.
