Para sport preview: October 2018

Two World Championships and Asian Para Games highlight the month 01 Oct 2018 By IPC

Only three months left in the year but still a lot of action in Para sports. For the Asian athletes, table tennis players and trap shooters, October is the season’s highlight.

Asian Para Games

Around 3,000 athletes from 43 countries are expected to compete across 18 sports in Jakarta, Indonesia, from 6-13 October.

Para Table Tennis World Championships

The best table tennis players will gather in the Slovenian towns of Celje and Lasko for the first major individual international competition after the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. It will take place from 15-21 October.

Lonato 2018

The first ever World Shooting Para Sport Para Trap Championships will be held at one of the world’s most beautiful shotgun ranges located in the Italian town. Competition will take place between 5 and 6 October.

Abbott World Marathon Major

Chicago will stage the second of the Series XII on 7 October. Switzerland’s Manuela Schaer and Canada’s Brent Lakatos won the women’s and men’s wheelchair races in the season’s first World Marathon Major in Berlin, Germany.

European Para Badminton Championships

Rodez, France, will be home for the continental competition between 30 October and 4 November.

ITU Para Triathlon World Cup

Triathletes will fly to Sarasota, USA, and Funchal, Portugal, for the next two stages of the World Cup circuit.

Boccia Regional Open

Olbia, Italy organises a new regional competition from 21-28 October.

2018 Barranquilla Open – Abiertos Nacionales

The Colombian city will host more than 200 international athletes in Para athletics, Para powerlifting and Para swimming in one of the biggest competitions in Latin America this year. The Open takes place from 18-21 October.

Central America and Caribbean Championships

Regional men’s wheelchair basketball event to be held in San Jose, Costa Rica, from 21-28 October.
