Hamburg 2018

The British men’s and women’s wheelchair basketball teams reached the world finals at the same edition for the first time. While the former achieved a historical victory over the USA to take gold, the latter lost to the Netherlands.

Sydney 2018

Japan caused a major upset by beating defending champions and two-time Paralympic gold medallists Australia in the final to win their first wheelchair rugby world title.

Maniago 2018

Hosts Italy had a glittering performance at their home Road Para Cycling World Championships, winning nine golds, four silvers and four bronze to finish atop the medals table. Great Britain’s Sarah Storey returned to competition after giving birth to her son Charlie and won two titles.

Portugal 2018

In the most surprising result of the Para Canoe World Championships, Charlotte Henshaw overtook her British teammate and reigning world and Paralympic champion Emma Wiggs in the women’s KL2.

Liverpool 2018

After losing out to boccia gold against him at Rio 2016, Greece’s Greg Polychronidis took revenge and claimed the BC3 world title with victory over South Korea’s Howon Jeong with a stunning comeback. His performance was one of the memorable moments of the World Championships.

Berlin 2018

Fifteen world records were broken at the World Para Athletics European Championships in the German capital. Home crowd favourite Markus Rehm set one of the best, jumping a staggering 8.48m in the men’s long jump T64.

Dublin 2018

For the first time since 2011, a country won over a hundred medals at a European Championships. Ukrainian swimmers were in magnificent form as they claimed a record 106 overall, including 33 gold, 44 silvers and 29 bronze.

Algiers 2018

Nigerian Bose Omolayo broke the world record in the women’s up to 79kg thanks to a 139.5kg lift at the World Para Powerlifting African Championships. But it was Egypt’s Sherif Osman who, after winning the men’s up to 59kg title, was chosen “Best African Powerlifter” by public vote.

European and Pan Am Archery Championships

US archers were unstoppable in Medellin, Colombia, as they struck multiple golds at the Pan Ams, while Czech Republic’s David Drahoninsky and Sarka Musilova secured home victories at the Europeans.

Asian Para Triathlon Championships

Japanese triathletes showed good form in Legazpi City, Philippines, claiming six of eight gold medals.

Para Pan Pacifics

Australian swimmers finished top of the medals table at home in Adelaide with 43 golds, 30 silvers and 21 bronze.

Brazil Para Badminton International

Vitor Goncalves Tavares celebrated a triple crown in the SS 6 category on home soil in Sao Paulo.
