RFI for European media rights for LA28 Paralympics launched
Parties have until 9 October 2026 to express their interest in the event which takes places between 15-27 August 2028 01 Sep 2026
With just under two years to go until the LA28 Paralympic Games begin, a Request for Information (RFI) inviting broadcasters and agencies to submit their interest in the European broadcast media rights for the event has been launched.
Broadcasters and agencies have until 9 October 2026 to express their interest in the European broadcast media rights, with the LA28 Organising Committee aiming to capitalise on the Paralympic Games’ unique combination of growing global interest, world class sport, and track record for transforming society.
The media rights available for the LA28 Paralympic Games include Free to Air and Pay television, streaming, digital platforms, and audio. The LA28 Paralympic Games will deliver approximately 1,400 hours of live coverage over 14 days of all 23 Paralympic sports, as well as the Opening and Closing Ceremonies. Daily highlights are also available.
For every Games, the media rights are transferred to the respective Organising Committee who then appoint the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) as the exclusive agent to sell and manage the media rights for the Games.
John Lisko, the IPC’s Managing Director of Global Media Rights, said: “Following the incredible success of Paris 2024, where interest in the Paralympic Games reached new levels in Europe, the Games are heading to Los Angeles and promise to be the biggest and best Paralympics yet. With unprecedented interest in the Paralympic Games, we are keen to fully realise the commercial value of the rights in Europe and across the world.
“Through this RFI for the LA28 Paralympic Games, we are keen to hear from all broadcasters and agencies for TV, streaming, digital, social, and audio platforms who understand the value of this event which, in terms of ticket sales, is now the third biggest sport event on earth.”
The LA28 Paralympic Games will take place between 15-27 August and will bring together a maximum 4,480 Para athletes from around 170 National Paralympic Committees. The Games will feature 560 medal events across 23 Para sports, including Para climbing that will make its Paralympic debut. Competition in three Para sports will begin in the days ahead of the Opening Ceremony, ensuring 14 days of sporting action.
According to Nielsen Sports global research commissioned by the IPC, awareness of the Paralympic Games stands at 80 per cent, with only the Olympic Games and Men’s FIFA World Cup enjoying greater awareness.
The elite performances of Paralympians are having a monumental impact on audiences, triggering positive attitudinal changes. Research found eight out of 10 (80 per cent) said the Paralympic Games made them feel more positive about the abilities of people with disabilities.
Broadcasters and agencies should contact the IPC via email at LA28RFI-Europe@paralympic.org for the RFI and to participate in the process. Final date for expressing interest is 9 October 2026.
