The excitement continued at the Changwon 2026 World Shooting Para Sport Championships as new champions emerged and three world records were broken in Para trap events on Monday.

Three Para trap finals were contested on the penultimate day of action in Changwon, delivering thrilling contests and record-breaking performances, while Spain dominated the day with two gold medals.

Spain's Meliton Antonio Brinas Mora produced an impressive performance to turn his Brno 2025 bronze into gold with a world record effort of 27 hits out of 30 in PT3 mixed trap standing (upper limb) SG-U.

France's Jean-Michel Brune also managed an impressive 24 hits but had to settle for silver.

"It was a complicated final but exciting too. Last year, I won the bronze and this time the gold - there are many lessons that I learnt competing in these two events.

"I am content with hits as I managed a new world record. It was a closely fought match in the end and I gave everything. I'm super proud today," said Brinas Mora, the 2017 Para Trap World Championships winner.

There were more celebrations for the Spanish team in the only pistol event of the day.

Carlos Alberto Linares Molino extended his love affair with Changwon as he clinched his first WSPS World Championships title at the same venue where he won his first World Cup gold in 2025.

Linares Molino's 225.1 points in the final were enough to overcome a late challenge from Italy's Davide Franceschetti, the Paris 2024 Paralympic bronze medallist, in the P4 -50m pistol open SH1 - final.

Paralympic and world medallist in P3, Kim Jungnam settled for bronze with 201.4 points, while home favourite and Lima 2023 bronze medallist Jo Jengdu, who already has a gold in P1, finished just outside the medals.

Other medallists

In a repeat of the PT1 final at Brno 2025, Switzerland's Murat Pelit reversed the result – from silver to gold – as he overcame a strong challenge from UAE's Mohammed Alhashmi, the reigning Para trap world champion.

Pelit, a former Para alpine skiing Paralympian, shot an impressive 22 hits, with just eight misses, to turn his Brno 2025 silver into a world title. Alhashmi settled for silver with 19 hits, four ahead of fellow UAE athlete Mohammed Alhebsi.

"I am back in Korea again - first time was for Winter Paralympics in Pyeongchang and second time, for World Championships here. I'm so happy to finally win the gold here in Korea as I didn't win any in the Winter Games," said an emotional Pelit, who started Para trap shooting only three years ago.
