Tokyo 2020: Ticket prices announced

Low-cost entry to Paralympic Games designed to attract young fans 24 Aug 2018 By Tokyo 2020

Tokyo 2020 has announced an outline of proposed affordable ticket prices for all sports at the Paralympic Games.

This is part of the Organising Committee’s commitment to enhance the family atmosphere and attract as many youngsters as possible.

Tickets for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies will cost from JPY 8,000 (approx. EUR 62) to JPY 150,000 (EUR 1,162), while attending a sport event will cost between JPY 900 (EUR 7) and JPY 9,000 (EUR 70).

A special range of lower-priced tickets is being considered for families and groups whose members include children, senior citizens or people with impairment.

IPC President Andrew Parsons said: “The Paralympic Games have a long and proud history of attracting a family audience, and the announcement of the ticket price outline for Tokyo 2020 will enable families to start planning their summers for two years’ time.

“To attend a Paralympic Games in your home country is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and I urge residents of Japan to sign up for more information on tickets as soon as possible.

“One of the stand-out features from previous Paralympics has been seeing whole generations of the same family watching one of the world’s biggest sporting events together in one venue.

“I am confident Tokyo 2020 will be no different and those who buy tickets will create a fantastic atmosphere for all the Para athletes taking part.”

Similar tickets are also being considered as part of the Olympic and Paralympic Games ticketing programme targeting one million students across Japan.

In addition, concessionary tickets for areas dedicated to wheelchair users will be made available, and Tokyo 2020 is also planning to offer a hospitality programme.

The number of residents of Japan who have registered at Tokyo 2020’s online platform has already reached 500,000 following the launch of the ticket campaign on 20 July 2018.

Tickets for the Paralympic Games will go on sale next summer.
