The nominations for January 2019’s Americas ‘Athlete of the Month’ poll have been announced. The public are invited to vote for their winner via the Americas Paralympic Committee homepage until Thursday (14 February).

Johanna Sossa and Johana Martinez beat Mexico 2-0 in the best-of-three series following 3-0 and 2-1 victories at the Americas qualification and qualified for the World Team Cup Finals.

Gustavo Fernandez, Argentina, wheelchair tennis

Ended a four-match losing streak in Grand Slam finals to claim his third major title, and second at the Australian Open, with a 7-5 6-3 victory over perennial rival Stefan Olsson of Sweden.

Frederique Turgeon, Canada, alpine skiing

Sealed one silver and two bronze at her maiden World Championships in Kranjska Gora, Slovenia, and Sella Nevea, Italy, just weeks after the death of her father.

Thomas Walsh, USA, alpine skiing

Won his first World Championship medals, two bronze in the men’s giant slalom and super combined standing.
