Four athletes from four different sports have been shortlisted for July 2018´s Americas ‘Athlete of the Month’ poll. The public are invited to vote for their winner via the Americas Paralympic Committee homepage until Tuesday (14 August).

Gustavo Fernandez, Argentina, wheelchair tennis

Reached the men’s final at Wimbledon for a second consecutive year, and followed that up with his fifth title at the Belgian Open.

Elizabeth Gomes, Brazil, athletics

Set new world records in both the women’s shot put and javelin F52 at the Berlin Grand Prix, just two weeks after breaking the discus world record in Paris.

Claudia Romero, Mexico, taekwondo

Achieved a decisive victory over Peru’s Leonor Espinoza Carranza in the women’s up to 49kg K44 division to win her second Pan Am title.

Allysa Seely, USA, triathlon

Continued her undefeated streak, securing her third straight gold medal over a minute ahead of the field at the World Series stop in Edmonton, Alberta.

The nominations are compiled from submissions by National Paralympic Committees (NPCs) from across the continent.

The 2018 Americas Athlete of the Month winners are:

• January – Fernando Fuentes, El Salvador, swimming

• February – Brenna Huckaby, USA, snowboard

• March – Cristian Ribera, Brazil, Nordic skiing

• April – Daniela Gimenez, Argentina, swimming

• May – Juan Carlos Garrido, Chile, powerlifting

• June – Francisca Mardones, Chile, athletics
