World Series 2026: Salinas Rojas, Gutierrez Bermudez lead Mexico’s medal rush

Citli Siloe Salinas Rojas and Jesus Alberto Gutierrez Bermudez led Mexico’s dominant campaign with four victories apiece as the hosts topped the medal standings at the Para Swimming World Series Guadalajara 2026.

Overall, Mexico collected 39 medals across four days of competition, winning 17 of the 24 multiclass events contested at the Centro Acuatico CODE Metropolitano from 13 to 16 August.

Home stars

Salinas Rojas (S14/SB14/SM14) delivered across four different disciplines, winning the women’s 100m breaststroke, 100m butterfly, 200m individual medley and 400m freestyle races. She also finished second in the 100m backstroke, completing the competition with five medals from five events.

Gutierrez Bermudez (S6/SB6/SM6) matched that total of four victories in the men’s competition. The 19-year-old won the 100m breaststroke before adding first place in the 200m individual medley, 400m freestyle and 50m butterfly events.

Marcos Rafael Zarate Rodriguez and Ana Laura Morales Lopez were the other multiple winners for Mexico.

Zarate Rodriguez (S3/SB2) led the men’s 50m backstroke and the 50m breaststroke, in addition to a silver medal in the 150m individual medley, finishing behind compatriot Angel de Jesus Camacho Ramirez while Morales Lopez (SB3/SM4) won both events, the women’s 50m breaststroke and 150m individual medley.

Camacho Ramirez (SM4), a three-time Paris 2024 medallist, added his name to the list of Mexican winners in the 150m individual medley SM4.

Five more swimmers delivered individual victories for the host nation. 

Fabiola Ramirez Martinez (S2) won the women’s 50m backstroke, while Paola Lizette Ruvalcaba Nunez led the 100m backstroke and collected bronze in the 400m freestyle.

Maria Jaslyn Balleza Garcia (S7) won the women’s 50m freestyle. Naomi Somellera Mandujano (S7/SB7) claimed first place in the 50m butterfly after earlier securing bronze in the 100m breaststroke.

Visitors on the podium

The international field accounted for the remaining seven titles, with Argentina and Russia producing all the visiting winners.

Argentina’s Joaquin Leiva, the S9 swimmer, was the leading international performer winning the men’s 50m, 100m freestyle, and 100m butterfly. He also took bronze in the 100m backstroke and 200m individual medley, leaving Guadalajara with five medals.

Russian swimmers dominated four events, with Aleksandra Mokrousova (S14) completing a freestyle double in the women’s competition, taking first place in both the 100m and 200m events.

Rodion Berdnik (S14) led an all-Russian podium in the men’s 200m freestyle and added silver medals in the 100m backstroke and 200m individual medley. Andrei Trofimenko (S7) secured Russia’s other victory in the men’s 100m backstroke.

The Mexico World Series was the seventh stop of the 2026 season. The circuit now pauses for the World Para Swimming European Championships Kocaeli 2026, which will take place from 7 to 12 September in Kocaeli, Turkiye.

The World Series competition resumes in November with the final two stages of the year. Lima, Peru, hosts the penultimate event from 12 to 14 November before the season concludes in Abu Dhabi, UAE, from 26 to 28 November.
