Viewers of TikTok LIVE videos on @Paralympics during the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games helped raise USD 500,000 in donations to support the International Paralympic Committee’s (IPC) global Para sport development programmes.

As part of efforts to engage global audiences, the IPC teamed up with TikTok to produce a range of content during the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, leading to record results.

During the Games, which took place from 28 August-8 September, the IPC produced multiple short videos for the @Paralympics TikTok channel, including clips of the best sporting moments. In total the content received more than 125 million views, 6 million engagements, and reached a global audience of around 120 million people.

The number of followers of the @Paralympics account also grew to 4.7 million – more than half of the Paralympic Games audience across all platforms, which is now nearly 9 million.

Nearly 1.5 million people viewed the @Paralympics LIVE content, which featured interviews with Paralympians in and around Paris 2024 Paralympic venues, such as the Paralympic Village and Opening and Closing Ceremonies. During the TikTok LIVES, viewers were able to send exclusive Phryge Gifts, with each gift leading to TikTok donating towards the IPC’s global Para sport development programmes.

A total of USD 500,000 was raised, which will now increase opportunities for persons with disabilities to experience the transformational power of sport and physical activity.

Kristina Molloy, the IPC’s Chief Membership and Impact Officer, said: “The money raised by TikTok viewers and TikTok through sending virtual Phryge gifts will be invested into Para sport development programmes around the world. We are extremely grateful that these gifts will help create and support the next generation of Para athletes.”

Adam Wang, Head of TikTok LIVE said: “The TikTok community's incredible response to the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games showcases our platform's ability to inspire and create real-world impact. With millions of LIVE Phryge Gifts sent for Para sport development, we've seen digital engagement translate into tangible support.

"This partnership with the IPC has not only brought Paralympic excitement to a global audience but also empowered our users to contribute directly to the growth of Para sport."

The range of content the IPC produced for the @Paralympics TikTok account during Paris 2024 included:

•    Outstanding sporting moments: During 12 days of sporting action, more than 400 clips of the best sporting action were shared

•    LIVE content with athletes: From early July through to the Closing Ceremony on 8 September, there were close to 50 TikTok LIVE videos with leading Paralympians in and around Paris sharing their experiences of the Paralympic Games

•    TikTok LIVE: Connect and support in real-time – TikTok LIVE allowed viewers to have a front row seat to the Paralympics with in-the-moment content. Viewers worldwide were able to tune into the @Paralympics account to find our exclusive Phryge Gifts during this period. LIVE videos from creators in France, the United Kingdom, and the United States also featured these limited-time gifts. For every Phryge gift sent, TikTok donated to support the IPC’s global Para sport development programmes

•    Para Sport explainers: Produced in partnership with Allianz, 90-second-long animated guides to each of the 22 Paralympic sports
