Only athletes who have competed in either of the two previous Paralympic Summer Games or will compete at London 2012 are eligible for nomination.

With just six months to go until the London 2012 Paralympic Games, National Paralympic Committees (NPCs) are invited to nominate one candidate for election to the International Paralympic Committee’s (IPC) Athletes Council.

Only athletes who have competed in either of the two previous Paralympic Summer Games or will compete at London 2012 are eligible for nomination.

The Athletes Council meets twice a year, doing the majority of its work via e-mail. Members actively participate in discussions involving athlete-related issues, attend and host athletes’ meetings at major sports competitions and are responsible for reporting updates to any external bodies on which they may sit.

The IPC recommends candidates should possess strong qualities of leadership, accomplishment, knowledge and respect, both on and off the field of play. The Council particularly welcomes candidates with experience in and a commitment to the advocacy of athlete-related issues.

For the first time, the IPC is offering a secure online nomination form. Deadline for the submissions of nominations is 27 May 2012 at 24:00 (CET). To receive access to the secure nomination form, please email IPC Executive Office Manager Verena Conrad at verena.conrad@paralympic.org.

A complete list of candidates will be published two months prior to the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Paralympic Games.
