Afghanistan at the Rio 2016 Paralympics

·Afghanistan has yet to claim a medal at the Paralympic Games.
·The NPC made its debut at the Atlanta 1996 Paralympic Games.
·Powerlifter Mohammad Fahim Rahimi was the sole representative for Afghanistan at the last two Paralympic Games.
·Rahimi failed to set a score at Beijing 2008 in the men's up to 67.5kg while finishing in 12th place at London 2012 in the men's up to 75kg.
·Mareena Karim was the first woman to represent Afghanistan at the Paralympic Games. At Athens 2004 she finished in 15th place in the women's 100m T46.
·The only other sport Afghanistan has competed in at the Paralympic Games is cycling.
·There is no rights holding broadcaster in Afghanistan, but the Paralympic Games can be watched live via the IPC’s website at www.paralympic.org
