The 2024 World Para Ice Hockey Championships A-Pool will take place from 4-12 May at WinSport Arenas in Calgary, Canada. The event will feature the top eight teams in the world: USA, Canada, Czechia, China, South Korea, Italy, Japan, and Slovakia. The tournament will be played in a round-robin format with the teams split into two groups, followed by the playoff round, culminating with the gold-medal game on 12 May.

Background

Korea is looking to bounce back after falling to a fifth-place finish at last year’s World Championships, following bronze-medal performances in 2017 and 2019 and a fourth-place finish in 2021.

Athlete to Watch

Seung-Hwan Jung has been the leading skater for Korea for a decade now, and remains their top scorer, having led the team with three points and 14 shots on goal at last year’s World Championships. Known as “Messi on Ice,” he remains one of the games fastest and slickest players.

Matchup to Watch: China vs. Korea on 4 May

The top two ranked teams in Asia will face off on the opening day of tournament play in a game that could ultimately decide who makes it to the semifinals. At last year’s event, China defeated Korea, 7-2, in the quarterfinals.
