World Para Ice Hockey has released the competition schedule for the second edition of the Women’s World Challenge, which will be presented by Citi and take place in Green Bay, USA from 31 August to 3 September.

The tournament will feature Canada, Great Britain, USA and Team World*, and will serve as a steppingstone towards the Women’s World Championships in 2025. The goal is to expand female participation in Para ice hockey worldwide and one day add it to the Paralympic Winter Games programme.

At last year’s inaugural event, also held in Green Bay, Team USA went undefeated to win gold on its home ice. Canada claimed silver and Team World won bronze.

The announcement initially published on 14 August included the presences of Team Asia and Team Europe instead of Team World. However, due to issues with some players' availability to join the competition it was necessary to regroup the athletes under Team World for the 2023 edition.

Competition kicks off on 31 August at 15:00 local time when Great Britain take on Team World. Last year's finalists USA and Canada will then clash in the second matchup of the opening day at 18:30.

On 1 September, Canada will return for the next game to face Team World at 15:00, while defending champions USA will make their second game against Great Britain at 18:30.

The third day of competition, 2 September, will begin with Canada vs. Great Britain at 17:00, followed by USA vs. Team World at 20:30.

The final day of the event on 3 September will see two medal matchups at Green Bay’s Cornerstone Community Centre. Third and fourth-placed teams will play the bronze medal game at 11:00. The gold medal game will take place at 15:00.

The first edition of the Women's World Challenge presented by Citi saw USA beat Canada in the gold-medal game by a score of 5-1, finishing the event with a perfect 4-0 record.

Citi will return as the presenting sponsor as part of the IPC’s PARA SPORT grassroots to high performance programme. Together, Citi and PARA SPORT aim to help change the narrative around people with disabilities and provide Para athletes and their member organisations with a platform to drive social progress.
