At the London 2012 Paralympic Games, Grace Anozie established herself as arguably the top female powerlifter from one of the strongest countries in the sport.
Nigeria portrayed their powerlifting dominance in London, winning 12 medals during the Games.
Anozie started her career in 1998 and escalated toward gold ever since. A friend once invited her to try the sport and once she started, she never stopped.
Her world debut came at the Sydney 2000 Paralympic Games, where she won bronze. Four years later, at the Athens 2004 Paralympics she won bronze once more.
Pursuing to break her own record at the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games, she won silver, lifting 165kg.
In February 2012, Anozie set a new world record for women’s powerlifting in the +82.50kg category with a lift of 168kg in Dubai at the Fazza International Powerlifting Championships.
At London 2012, Anozie’s fourth Paralympic outing, she finally won Paralympic gold after 12 years of competition, lifting 162kg in the +82kg category, at the ExCeL.
