2016 Evaluation Commission Concludes Second Stop

The inspection took place over the course of four days in the Japanese capital, and included meetings with several Government representatives like the Prime Minister, the Japanese Olympic and Paralympic Committees, Sports Federations, the Japanese business community, and numerous Olympians and Paralympians which Tokyo has involved in the planning process. Along with members of the sports community, the Commission also met with volunteers and was briefed on several subjects such as the Tokyo 2016 legacy and sustainability.

The 2016 Evaluation Commission is lead by Chairperson Nawal El Moutawakel and includes International Paralympic Committee (IPC) representative Greg Hartung. The next Candidate City for the Commission to visit is Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) from 29 April to 2 May 2009, followed by Madrid (Spain) from 5-8 May 2009.

In each city visited, the Evaluation Commission has an in-depth look, provided through presentations and on-site visits, into 17 different themes, including Paralympic Games, transportation, accommodation, technology, media operations, environment and meteorology, finance, security, sport and venues and Athletes village(s).

The outcome will be summarized in a technical report, which will be published and submitted to all IOC members no later than one month before the election of the Host City, which takes place on 2 October during the IOC Session in Copenhagen, Denmark.
