Canada, USA to begin sledge series

The series marks the final international competition for both teams before the 2013 IPC Ice Sledge Hockey World Championships A-Pool in April in Goyang, Korea.

Canada will face USA in a three-game ice sledge hockey series beginning on Thursday (14 February) at the Canadian International Hockey Academy Arena in Rockland, Ontario, a suburb of Ottawa.

The series marks the final international competition for both teams before the 2013 IPC Ice Sledge Hockey World Championships A-Pool in April in Goyang, Korea.

Coached by Jeff Sauer, USA are the defending world and Paralympic champions and recently defeated Canada for gold in December’s World Sledge Hockey Challenge. The team will be led by forward Alexi Salamone and goalie Steve Cash.

The Canadian squad will be anchored by Greg Westlake and Brad Bowden and are hoping to build up momentum for this year’s World Championships after finishing with the bronze medal at last year’s Championships.
