IPC Athletes’ Council Meets in Switzerland
With the London 2012 Paralympic Games fast approaching, the IPC Athletes’ Council had plenty of exciting topics to discuss from social media to anti-doping. 16 May 2012

The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Athletes’ Council held its latest meeting from 12-13 May in Nottwil, Switzerland, where the group received updates on the London 2012 Paralympic Games and discussed matters pertaining to anti-doping, equipment, classification and media, among other areas.
Attendees included Bob Balk (Chairman), Marketa Sidkova, Tim Prendergast, Eskil Hagen, Katarzyna Rogowiec, Heinz Frei. Frank Fredericks was also present as the IOC representative.
The group took a tour of the Swiss Paraplegic Foundation and Swiss Paraplegic Centre and took part in a dinner hosted by the Swiss Paralympic Committee in Lucerne.
Items on the council’s agenda included everything from the IPC Governing Board Meeting and General Assembly to equipment policies and the World Anti-Doping Code Review.
The athletes also collaborated on how to push the Paralympic Movement further into the public eye, and will be sharing ideas with athletes around the world via Facebook and other social media feeds in the future.
The IPC Athletes’ Council is the collective voice of Paralympic athletes around the world and acts as a liaison between IPC decision-makers and athletes. It is composed of nine athlete representatives who are elected to four-year terms.
