Lonato del Garda, the scenic and historic city in northern Italy, is set to make history yet again when it hosts the first Para Trap European Championships from Thursday (29 September).

Five years after hosting the first-ever World Cup in Para Trap, followed by two Para Trap World Championships, Lonato will welcome the European and World stars eager to make history in one of the largest shotgun facilities in the world.

This week the city will witness a total of 45 shooters from 17 nations vying for glory in the three-day Para Trap event, offering six gold medals in individual and team events.

The hosts Italy, also the Para Trap shooting powerhouse, will field the largest team of 10 including the biggest names in the sport – three-time World Champion Francesco Nespeca and Sydney 2019 winner Oreste Lai – in their line-up.

Stamp Dominance

Both the shooters would be keen to stamp their dominance yet again, this time at home in the PT1 – Mixed Trap Seated SG-S 1 and PT3 – Mixed Trap Standing SG-U finals. The hosts will also have Sydney 2019 World medallist Saverio Cuciti competing in PT2 – Mixed Trap Standing SG-L.

Shooters from Great Britain, Finland and Spain would be also keen to put up a competitive show with Finland’s Vesa Jarvinen looking the repeat the form which made him first world champion in 2018.

However, he will have to face a strong challenge from Spaniard Ignacio Javier Oloriz who reigned supreme at the Lonato 2021 Worlds with a superb show.

Meanwhile, Finland will also look up to Sydney 2019 Worlds medallist Juha Myllymaki to put up a good show in PT1 – Mixed Trap Seated SG-S 1 which has Italian Lai in the field.

With Para Trap shooting added to the World Shooting Para Sport Championships competition programme back in 2018, shooters would be also looking to be in their peak ahead of the Al Ain 2022 World Championships in November.

The finals of the Lonato 2022 Euros will be live on World Shooting Para Sport Facebook page.
