Medals Plaza gets set to go in Rosa Khutor

The medals plaza in the mountains at Sochi 2014 will showcase 58 of the 72 victory ceremonies happening at the Paralympic Winter Games.

The total area of the Medals Plaza is 1,600 square metere, and the space can accommodate up to 1,500 guests at one time.

The first day of Paralympic competitions in Sochi are taking place on Saturdady (8 March), and the first awards ceremony for winning athletes will take place in the Paralympic Medals Plaza in Krasnaya Polyana on the same day.

Over nine days, 58 of the overall 72 sets of medals will be awarded in the Medals Plaza. In addition to the medal ceremonies, guests can also enjoy concert programmes featuring an array of musical stars. Entrance to the Plaza is completely free, giving everyone the opportunity to see the newly crowned Paralympic champions jubilantly accept their medals.

The Paralympic Medals Plaza is located in the heart of the Mountain Cluster, at the lower base of the Rosa Khutor ski resort at an altitude of 575m above sea level. The Plaza is approximately 45km from the international airport of Sochi. Between 8 – 15 March, the Medals Plaza will be open from 10:00 to 22:00, closing briefly each day from 16:00 to 16:30.

Every evening at 17:00 the guest of the Plaza will meet the athletes of the Sochi Paralympic Games – they will talk to the fans and answer their questions. Then the victory ceremonies for the Paralympic athletes will be held. They will start each evening at 18.00 and will last for approximately 45 minutes. During the celebrations, athletes will be awarded medals and bouquets, and will hear the national anthem of the countries whose athletes won gold medals.
