With two golds and a bronze, South Korean dancers proved that they had the right moves on the second, and final, day (Tuesday 21 October) of the wheelchair dance sport competition at the Incheon 2014 Asian Para-Games.

In the combi Latin class 2 event, Young-Ho Lee and partner Lee Eun-ji took gold scoring seven points, with a perfect dance in the Samba, Cha Cha Cha and Rumba, and ranking second in the Pasodoble and Jive.

The Philippines’ Julius Jun Obero and Rochelle Canoy had better moves in the Pasodoble and Jive, but they were let down in the Samba, ranking third overall. They finished with nine points to take silver.

South Korea’s Yung-Chul Park and Yu-Na Kim finished third with 14 points.

South Korea also took gold in the duo standard class 2 event, with an impressive performance from Jong-Chul Choi and Moon-Jung Choi to follow on from their duo Latin bronze from Monday (20 October). They had a perfect score of five, finishing well ahead of the other dancers.

Duo standard bronze medallists from the 2013 World Championships - Ardak Ortorbayev and Karlygash Synabekova of Kazakhstan - took silver, and Chinese Taipei’s pair Wen-Sheng Kuo and Yi-jung Huang won bronze, after both scored a total of 14 points. The former showed their strengths in the Waltz and Quickstep, whilst the latter was more adept in the Viennese Waltz and Slow Foxtrot.

Dancers from Hong Kong, China, shone in the combi Latin class 1 event, taking gold and silver.

Wah Keung Ma and Hei Man Ho had a perfect score of five points to top the podium. Their teammates Wo Chao Wong and Sin Ting Holly Yau scored 10 points in second place. Kazakhstan’s Ardak Ortorbayev and Aidana Beglenova came third with 15 points.

Over the course of the two days, South Korea have dominated the dance floor with four gold and two bronze medals. Hong Kong, China, and Japan finished joint-second in the wheelchair dance sport medals table with one medal each of every colour.
