Sweden names Sochi wheelchair curling team

The Swedish Paralympic Committee has named the five players that will represent the country at wheelchair curling at the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games. 06 Jan 2014

Sweden's wheelchair curling team won two matches against Norway (10-8) and Korea (7-6) in Sochi.

At last year’s World Championships held in Sochi, Sweden were silver medal winners and were defeated by two-time Paralympic champions Canada in the final.

The team consists of skip Jalle Jungnell, Glenn Ikonen, Patrik Kallin, Kristina Ulander and Zandra Reppe, all of whom were nominated by the Swedish Curling Association.

For Jalle Jungnell and Glenn Ikonen, it will be their second Paralympic Winter Games, having both competed in Torino in 2006 and Vancouver in 2010, events Sweden won the bronze medal at. Patrick Kallin was also a bronze medal winner at his first Winter Paralympics in 2010, whilst Kristina Ulander and Zandra Reppe will both make their Paralympic debuts in Sochi.

The 10 teams that have qualified for Sochi 2014 are Canada, Sweden, China, USA, Russia, Great Britain, Slovakia, Finland, Korea and Norway. Competition will take place in the Ice Cube Curling Centre between 8-15 March 2014.
