Tokyo 2020 welcomes new supporters
Sankei Shimbun and Hokkaido Shimbun Press join as domestic third tier partners 02 Jan 2018The Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (Tokyo 2020) has welcomed Japanese newspaper groups The Sankei Shimbun and The Hokkaido Shimbun Press as Tokyo 2020 Official Supporters, the third domestic tier of the Tokyo 2020 Sponsorship Programme.
The companies have been attributed the category of “Newspapers”; their addition brings the total number of Tokyo 2020 domestic partners to 46*, including 15 Gold Partners, 29 Official Partners, and 2 Official Supporters, all of whom will play vital roles in the successful delivery of the Games.
Tokyo 2020 President Yoshiro Mori welcomed the announcement, commenting: “It is really encouraging that we are able to welcome The Sankei Shimbun and The Hokkaido Shimbun Press on board as our Official Supporters. I believe that our organisations will move forward together as a team supporting the further enhancement and development of the Olympic and Paralympic Movements.”
Hirohiko Iizuka, President and COO of The Sankei Shimbun, commented: “We are very delighted to back up the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020 as an Official Supporter. The Sankei Shimbun has been hosting various sports events including the Osaka Women’s Marathon and the All Japan High School Volleyball Championship to contribute towards the progress of the world of athletics. We are also engaged in the “Fukunowa Project” to utilize the sales revenue of second-hand clothes for the enhancement of Para sports. We are determined to continuously promote the development of sport and support the Tokyo 2020 Games to be successful.”
