Uzbekistan dominate Asian-Oceanian Championships

Uzbek judokas dominated the International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) Judo Asian-Oceanian Championships on home soil in the capital city of Tashkent, between 26-27 May, winning eight of the 12 events contested.

Rio 2016 gold medallist and home crowd favourite Sherzod Namozov took gold in the men’s up to 60kg after beating South Korea´s Min Jae Lee in the final. Namozov´s teammates Feruz Sayidov (men´s up to 73kg) and Shukhrat Boboev (men´s up to 90kg) also topped the podium.

In the remaining men’s events, South Korea celebrated two titles through Yunho Kim (up to 81kg) and two-time Paralympic champion Gwang Geun Choi (over 100kg), whilst Iran landed gold thanks to Saied Rahmati (up to 66kg) and Ehsan Mousanezhad (up to 100kg).

In the women’s events, Uzbekistan performed a clean sweep through Yokutkhon Komilova (up to 48kg), Sevinch Salaeva (up to 52kg), Nafisa Sheripboeva (up to 57kg), Tursunpashsha Nurmetova (up to 63kg) and Vasila Aliboeva (up to 70kg).
