Andorra have been competing at the Paralympic Winter Games since 2002 but have yet to win a medal.

Alpine skier Xavi Fernandez is heading to Russia to represent Andorra at the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games as the country’s only athlete.

The 41-year-old sit skier from Wildschonau will be Andorra’s Opening Ceremony flag bearer for the second Paralympic Winter Games in a row and will most likely be competing in both the slalom and giant slalom events. He will look to better his 24th-place finish from Vancouver 2010 in the giant slalom.

Fernandez, who has competed on the international stage since 2004, also serves as the treasurer of the Andorran Federation of Adapted Sports.
