IPC joins WADA in celebration of clean sport on annual Play True Day
The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) pledges its commitment to ensuring clean, fair and competitive sport for all athletes on Play True Day 11 Apr 2025
The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) joins the global sporting community to promote the importance of clean sport on the World Anti-Doping Agency’s annual Play True Day on 11 April 2025.
The Play True Day initiative, which was launched by WADA in 2014, has evolved into a global movement that reaches millions each year. This year’s theme, ‘Play True: It Starts with You’ highlights the individual responsibility of athletes, coaches, and all stakeholders in protecting the integrity of sport.
Commitment to clean sport
In line with WADA’s efforts, the IPC pledges its commitment to ensuring clean, fair and competitive sport for all athletes. The IPC’s anti-doping programme aims to safeguard the long-term integrity of the Paralympic Movement.
Prior to the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games the IPC established its first pre-Games anti-doping taskforce aimed at encouraging more risk-based testing of athletes leading up to the Games. The taskforce issued testing recommendations to 89 National or Regional Anti-Doping Organisations and six International Federations, which led to several athletes being excluded from the Games after returning positive tests.
At the Games themselves, the IPC undertook its most comprehensive anti-doping programme to date, with more than 1,700 athletes from 112 of the 169 competing delegations tested at least once in the French capital.
These combined efforts helped ensure a more level playing field for all athletes competing in Paris.
In 2024 the IPC also established an Independent Anti-Doping Tribunal to hear and determine anti-doping rule violations and other related matters in accordance with the IPC Anti-Doping Code.
The 20-member tribunal brings together expertise in anti-doping, legal, sports medicine, sports science and sports administration.
Jude Ellis, the IPC’s Head of Anti-Doping, said, “The evolution of Play True Day, now in its 11th year, to some degree reflects the growth and development of the global anti-doping movement. As the Paralympic Games also continue to grow in both scale and significance, our anti-doping programme must continue to evolve to meet the challenges that come with that.
“The IPC 100 percent supports Play True Day and we encourage our athletes to show their support for Play True Day and for clean Para sport.”
