Ostersund with a population of about 63 000, Östersund is the only city in the county of Jämtland. It is situated by the Lake Storsjön, in line with the coastal cities of Sundsvall and Trondheim (Norway). The mountain resort Åre is about an hour away, by car, while you get to Stockholm in 50 minutes, by air, and in less than five hours, by express train.

The love of winter - enjoying it, as well as benefiting from it. The long, cold winter is the city´s greatest asset, along with the freshest air and the cleanest water of Europe.

In addition to the 2020 World Para Biathlon Championships, from 12-15 March, Östersund and Åre along with the region of Jämtland, will host the 2023 IPC World Para Snow Sports Championships.

"Östersund Ski Stadium is the Swedish national arena for Biathlon and probably one of the best in the world and we also keep develop this into the world's best Parasport arena. Therefore, it is with great pleasure that we for the second year in a row are hosting an World Para Nordic Skiing World Cup and Biathlon World Championships. Our goal is to arrange more events of this calibre, where the municipality, sports clubs and businesses in collaboration creates high quality events for both athletes and spectators," said Bosse Svensson, Mayor of Ostersund.
