IPC mourns the passing of NPC Israel President Eli Birenbaum

The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) sends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Eli Birenbaum, the president of the National Paralympic Committee (NPC) of Israel, who has passed away following a serious illness.

Birenbaum was elected president of NPC Israel in November 2021. He served as a member of the National Committee and the active secretariat of the IDF Disabled People's Organization, a member of the National Sports Council, and as the chairman of the Israeli Disabled Sports Association. 

Andrew Parsons, IPC President, said: “The condolences of the IPC and the Paralympic Movement are with the friends, family, and Para sport colleagues of Eli Birenbaum. Eli was a long-time advocate of inclusion for persons with disabilities and someone who was passionate about the positive impact that Para sport could have on society.”

The Israeli Minister of Culture and Sports Miki Zohar, added: “I was pained to hear about the passing of Eli Birenbaum, the man who promoted disabled sports in Israel, who gave hope to thousands of people with disabilities and introduced them to this special world of sports. May his memory be blessed.”
