Para-South American Games to open in Santiago

The Para-South American Games is one of the year's biggest multi-sport events in the Paralympic Movement.

The host nation boasts the largest delegation of athletes at the event with 103 taking part, including Cristian Valenzuela, who won gold at the London 2012 Paralympic Games in the men’s 5,000m T11 race.

The first-ever Para-South American Games will open on Wednesday (26 March) in Santiago, Chile, where more than 600 athletes from eight countries will compete across seven sports for the next five days.

Medals will be contested in athletics, swimming, table tennis, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair tennis, boccia and powerlifting.

The host nation boasts the largest delegation of athletes at the event with 103 taking part, including Cristian Valenzuela, who won gold at the London 2012 Paralympic Games in the men’s 5,000m T11 race.

Also competing will be athletes from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela.
