The International Paralympic Committee (IPC)’s key scientific knowledge sharing event, the VISTA Conference, will take place from 7 to 10 December 2025 in Cairo, Egypt. The eleventh edition of the conference, with the theme ‘Developing Para Sport: Inclusion, Transformation, Health, and Performance’ is a partnership between the IPC and the Egyptian Paralympic Committee.

The VISTA Conference is an important international scientific gathering that provides a forum for exchanging information, research and expertise related to sport for people with a disability.

First organised by the IPC in 1993, VISTA aimed to address the limited scientific research on elite sport for athletes with an impairment. It has evolved into a key forum for exchange on expertise related to Para sport and the Paralympic Movement. Today, the conference also aims to enhance and promote interaction among sport scientists, coaches, athletes and sport administrators.

The IPC Scientific Award, which recognises an academic researcher for their contribution to research in the field of Para sport, will be presented at the conference. In 2023, the award was presented to Canadian Paralympian and medical anthropologist Professor David Howe, whose work explores how sport can both challenge and reinforce cultural perceptions of disability and marginalisation.

Full details of how to register for VISTA 2025, submit abstracts, and nominate for the IPC Scientific Award will be announced in due course.

Dr Mike Peters PLY, the IPC’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) said: “Sports for people with a disability have changed drastically over the last few decades, drawing an increase in public awareness, but also interest from the academic community.

“In the Paralympic Movement we work to promote a culture that values science and to encourage dialogue between the Movement and the academic world for the benefit of athletes and Para sport. By bringing together experts from across disciplines, we also hope to improve athlete support and advance the global understanding of high-performance sport for athletes with a disability.”

Following its successful debut, VISTA has been hosted in various countries including Germany (1999, 2006, 2011, 2013), Sweden (2003), Spain (2015), Canada (2017), and the Netherlands (2019). The 2021 edition was held virtually due to COVID-19 restrictions, while the 2023 edition was postponed until 2025.
